Welcome to 1nm

Introduction

I've always been a fan of three character dot coms, especially those with meaningful character combinations attributed to them. The term '1nm' has a lot of different meanings and is used to describe many different products and online entities, but the the most obvious association would have to be 1 nanometer, which is the measurement used in nanotechnology.

Eventually, I'll be turning this site into some kind of code or design project. Aside than that, I'm not entirely sure which direction I'll be taking it in, so for now at least, this place-setter will have to suffice while I have a think about it. :)

In the meantime, here's a brief summary of some of the things associated with 1nm:

Nanotechnology (One nanometer)

One nanometer (nm) is one billionth, or 10(-9), of a meter. By comparison, typical carbon-carbon bond lengths, or the spacing between these atoms in a molecule, are in the range 0.12-0.15 nm, and a DNA double-helix has a diameter around 2 nm. On the other hand, the smallest cellular life-forms, the bacteria of the genus Mycoplasma, are around 200 nm in length.

Nanotechnology, shortened to "nanotech", is the study of the controlling of matter on an atomic and molecular scale. Generally, nanotechnology deals with structures sized 100 nanometers or smaller in at least one dimension, and involves developing materials or devices within that size. - Wikipedia.

New Mexico

New Mexico is the fifth largest state in the United States and is located in the southwestern region. If has a population of about 2 million, its capital is Santa Fe and its largest city is Albuquerque. Tourist attractions include the Carlsbad Caverns National Park, the ruins at Fort Union, the White Sands and Gila Cliff Dwellings National Monuments, Bandelier Monument and the Chaco Culture National Historical Park.

Other possibilities

1nm (One nauticle mile) - The nautical mile (symbol M, NM, Nm or nmi) is a unit of length corresponding approximately to one minute of arc of latitude along any meridian. By international agreement it is exactly 1,852 metres (approximately 6,076 feet). - Wikipedia.

... or for the Imperialists; 1 nautical mile is approximately 1.15078 miles.

1nm (One Neuton meter) - Neuton Meter (Newton meter is a unit of torque - or "moment" - in the SI system.)

Acronyms: Not Much, Network Management, New Moon, Neuromuscular, Nuclear Medicine, No Message character, Newtonian Mechanics, Nice Move (gaming), Numerical Method(s), etc ...

Notes

By the way, if you're using Windows, this page is best viewed through a Safari Browser with the Quartz Engine running. On a Mac, it shouldn't matter. Under all circumstances, high pixel density (ppi) is preferable. Text-based webpages simply don't look right on any other setup.

I've thrown this webspace together from scatch pretty quickly. In due course, I'll endeavour to improve things.
